Abigale's 1st Roman Recap!

After my very first flight, our class landed in Italy and headed out to our home for the next ten days, Casa Valdese! After gertting all of our luggage up to the rooms, Cassidy and I ventured out on a short walk to a coffee shop nearby, where I also had my first cappuccino.

After regrouping, we explored a bit more of the Eternal City. We first walked around Piazza Cavour, where we found our first glimpses of impressive architecture, side streets, trees, and a fountain! As it neared sunset, we continued through the city and walked the Spanish Steps. There was a gorgeous view overlooking the city from many different landings, and they were definitely worth the mini hike!

To end off the walking/sightseeing portion of our night, we traversed the Piazza del Popolo. The area was packed with thousands of people, previously unknown to us, due to the Christmas Tree Lighting on the day of the Feast of Immaculate Conception. We stayed to watch the event, which consisted of two choirs singing Christmas carols, a speech from the Mayor of Rome (Robert Gualtiere), and the tree lighting itself. The return to the hotel was quite the hurdle due to this foot traffic, but everything was well worth the effort!
