Our last day in the Eternal City! We had a free morning, so a few students went to St. Peter's Basilica for Sunday Mass, and we saw Papa Francisco (aka Pope Francis) during his weekly appearance. Today was even his birthday, so the crowd sang happy birthday to him in Italian, twice! Afterwards, we returned to the hotel for a quick buffet style sandwich lunch on the rooftop terrace of our hotel before going to the Domus Aurea - the ruins of the palace of Nero. During our tour, we made friends with a local cat who lives in the ruins who followed us from room to room demanding attention.
After our tour, groups went their separate ways to make the most of our last afternoon here. Abby and I went to the Borghese Gardens and later shopped in the stores around the Piazza della Reppublica, before taking the metro back to the hotel for a quick gelato run before dinner. We ended our evening with a fancy dinner at a local resturant in Prati, Margot.
Arrivederci Roma!
