Carousel Ride in Piazza Navona
Pantheon
Handmade pasta for lunch
Trevi Fountain
Today was such a fun day exploring the city! The morning began by exploring Piazza Navona, which is one of my unexpected trip highlights so far. There were so many cute shops and pop-ups that were perfect for finding keepsakes and gifts. In particular, there was a paper and leather store with all handmade pieces that was very neat. We also took a ride on a carousel in the piazza! We visited many churches throughout the day, but the most memorable was the Church of St. Ignatius, as we unexpectedly found St. Robert Bellarmine! The art in each church is always breathtaking. Every inch of these churches is painted or plated in gold. We then walked to the Pantheon, which was so much larger than any of us thought. One minute we were walking down an Italian brick road, then we turned the corner and there stood the Pantheon. The city is laid out perfectly around all of the ancient monuments, which is something I have never seen before. We had handmade pasta for lunch and headed to one of the best coffee shops in the area, at which I tried an espresso shot which was yummy! Along the way home we all got gelato right by where Dr. Bingham lived when she was in Rome. We passed the Castel St. Angelo on the way home as well, which was once again larger than expected. Overall the day was fun-filled and I am looking forward to the rest of the trip!
