May's Day 10 in Rome

Today marked our last full day in Italy. With an unprogrammed morning, everyone in the class did something different. We all tried to visit places we hadn't gotten to see yet, or in my case, revisit one of my favorite places. I chose to walk to the Borghese Gardens and explore the scenic area around it all. I enjoyed this experience immensely because it made me realize how familiar I have become with the city during our short trip. I remembered landmarks and felt at home during my walk. It also gave me a great opportunity to sit in the gardens and write in my journal about the trip.

Afterwards, I made my way back to the hotel, stopping for boba tea on the way. I am a huge fan of boba tea in Louisville, and I've enjoyed exploring the boba scene in Rome. Then I got lunch at a cafe with Dr. Barker. We shared sandwiches, chips, and coffee.

As a unified class, we embarked for our final guided tour in the afternoon: the Domus Aurea. This was a super special opportunity, because guided groups are only allowed inside in moderation. We were all excited to find that we had the same tour guide -- Thomas -- who had shown us around the Colosseum and the Forum the week before. The Domus Aurea contained some of the most well-preserved frescoes and paintings we'd seen of that age. It also featured an incredible VR experience that allowed us all to witness how Nero's palace may have looked in its glorious heyday. That was a fantastic way to conclude our exploration of Ancient Rome.
