Today, December 10th 2024, I admittedly slept in a bit because I was jet lagged and tired from the flight. So, I woke up at 9 and got ready for the day! First the group I was with went to see the Ara Pacis, a recreation of a Roman altar to Caesar Augustus. Then we headed to the Piazza Del Popolo and went into the churches and I got my long awaited hot chocolate from Italy. I think it was at a touristy place so it wasn’t authentic so I’m hoping to get another to compare before I make any judgments. Then me, Cassidy, and Emma went to the Leonardo Da Vinci museum next to the Piazza, where we played around with real life diagrams of the inventions he theorized. After the Da Vinci we met up with the rest of the group to go to the supermercado and get things for our picnic in the Borghese Gardens. I got the best strawberries I’ve ever had and a pretty great sandwich. After we ate we went to the Borghese Gallery and we saw some amazing sculptures and paintings including some of Caravaggio’s and Bernini’s. I was super surprised to see “The Rape of Proserpina” in the gallery. It is an amazing work of art that I am happy to have seen in my lifetime. I also saw this little lion I attached in the pictures. I thought it was so cute and just looked happy to be there. I think that the sculpture embodies my attitude towards this trip. Then we walked around Rome a bit and went to a bookstore then went back to the hotel for dinner.
