Shaela’s Day 8 in Florence

Santa Croce Church

Michelangelo’s Tomb

 Ciao!! Checking in from Florence!

Day 8 started with some concerns. There was a public transportation strike for all busing systems in Rome. The class had to split up in order to make it to Termini Station and our scheduled visit to Florence! However, we were able to make it in groups: some walking, some riding the bus, some catching a taxi. One way or the other, we all arrived at the station, grabbed some lunch, and boarded the train. The train ride was magnificent! It was so smooth and we flew through the beautiful countryside of Italy! Even spotted some medieval ruins along the way! After an hour, we arrived in Florence and broke off in groups to explore! I went on a little exploration to some shops and markets. There are many cute vintage stores nearby and plentiful vendors—glamorous trinkets and crafts galore! Next, my group and I met up with another part of the class and visited the wonderful Santa Croce church. The frescoes were breathtaking, and the church is famous for being the burial place for many timeless artists such as Dante and Michelangelo. After viewing the church, we stopped at a Christmas market for some browsing and shopping as well as visited a bookstore/cinema. It was a lovely first day in Florence! The city is beautiful and a different crowd than in Rome. Buono Sera!
